Samsung i8910 Modem block has Qualcomm chipset. Its power is controlled by the PDA part, which is OMAP3430 Processor. Upon power-up the PDA tries to connect modem. If modem firmware is dead, then no response will be received, and after some time the PDA disconnects power from the Qualcomm chipset. The PDA itself constantly displays Samsung logo.
Thus, just connecting to the Qualcomm JTAG will be not enough, since PDA will be constantly removing power from modem block.
Because of this, definite actions must be taken over PDA JTAG communication link: - PDA has to be told that it is not polite to power off the modem part. Then it is ok to switch to modem JTAG connector and start the resurrection sequence.

Below are the steps to do to resurrect a dead i8910 modem:
*****216; Solder two JTAG cables to PDA and Qualcomm pads;
*****216; Connect microUSB cable to phone and PC;
*****216; Insert battery. LCD shows Samsung logo;
*****216; Make sure Samsung i8910 Modem is selected in the list of models, then click Resurrect button. The resurrection module will ask first to attach RIFF JTAG connector to PDA JTAG;
*****216; When step is finished successfully, the module asks to attach RIFF JTAG connector to MSM (modem) JTAG;
*****216; Resurrection sequence will start flashing modem;
*****216; Software signals a successful operation completion;
*****216; Remove battery and put it back again;
*****216; Now phone starts booting, no more permanent Samsung logo.
*****216; De-solder JTAG wires.
Now phone is in bootable condition, that is even if it does not start up normally, you can flash it to restore it to working state.

To enter download mode:
v Disconnect PC cable;
v Insert battery;
v Hold both Volume Up (upper left key) and Lock Key (upper right key) and press Power-On key. Screen lights up with Samsung logo and in 3-5 seconds phone enters download mode

Please note, if the modem firmware is functional, following considerations have to be taken into account. The modem firmware having started fully disables JTAG interface. This happens approximately in 3-5 seconds after power-on event. Thus, if you need to access modem (for example to read full flash image or write) you shall click proper buttons in time while the modem firmware has not disabled the JTAG interface yet.
Same is true if you will try to do resurrection sequence on the functional modem: till that time when you connect to PDA JTAG and then switch back to Modem JTAG, the modem firmware will already disable modem JTAG interface. If for some reason you persist to perform resurrection then use Target Halt feature to stop modem firmware before the resurrection itself.
